First Tests

Quick test of NOOBS 1.3.9

(As reported in the forum at http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=81847&p=579568#p579568)

Samsung micro-SDHC card (re-)formatted with GParted, the NOOBS lite zip file (1.3.9) was downloaded and unzipped directly to said card in an external USB micro-USB card reader/writer. When the Pi was first booted intially all seemed O.K., but subsequently an error occurred whilst Raspbian was being downloaded & installed (as shown above). Powering down and then re-powering the Pi led to a successful install on the second attempt suggesting that the error was due to a "network glitch".

Hacking an old 3.5" HDD cable to make a 40-pin to 26-pin cable

Longest part of the original cable sliced away from the second connector to leave behind a 40w-to-40w short cable then ...

... the excess "14w" ribbon was sliced away from the 40w connector.

Testing the above cable

An existing "breakout board assembly" was used to form a basic test of the Pi's serial connection.

NB:Although now using a wired keyboard, as in a previous test of NOOBS 1.3.2,
there was some delay before a keypress of '3' (PAL) was detected

Third Test of NOOBS 1.3.9 (VGA)

(Using this HDMI to VGA converter and a new micro-SDHC card (Q))

NB:Whilst the same mini-keyboard and Dual-output PSU is used as
before, the HDMI to VGA converter can now be powered via the "B+".
Also note that a Right-angled HDMI adapter was needed to give
clearance from the micro-USB power plug.
